New Mural at Ridgely!
Anyone who's seen Ridgely in it's "Construction Phase" over the past couple of years would agree that it's not likely to win any beauty contests. But if you've walked by the office lately, you might have sensed a change in the air, or at least on the WALL! Thanks to funding for the PTA Cultural Arts budget and a matching grant from the Maryland State Arts Council this year, Ridgely students from every grade level were given the opportunity to cerate ceramic works of art, which were arranged and mounted to create a beautiful mural on the wall opposite the office.
Students were involved in every aspect of the mural, even the design stage, where they chose the theme "Be the Change". Over 200 students were involved in the mural project, where they learned techniques like mixing grout, glazing, and painting the ceramic pieces. Amanda Pelerin, a noted ceramics artist, worked with six core classes and our own Ms Rountree, Mr Bullough, and Ms Wiedel, incorporated the learnings into other classes as well.
Look at the colorful, new Butterfly Garden at the main entrance! Many thanks for Monica Wiedel-Lubinski and the National Junior Art Society! It looks beautiful!
